Both were/are meant to reshape the country in ways known to the people who contrived the events, to collapse the pillars of current reality and create a new founding myth. In a mass MKUltra event, the country was trauma-bonded and meant to identify with the story so deeply that if anyone were to raise a question about the events, the question is treated as a personal attack, a threat to their very belief-existence-reality, and the questioner, worthy of death. This is not an exaggeration.
